Situated on the Eastern shore of Lake Windermere and adjacent to the 250 acre Great Tower Scout Camp Site Estate, the centre is ideally located for all types of water activities and, of course, fell walking / climbing in the Lakeland area. Available all year round. National grid ref.: 97 391927.

The gorgeous view of Lake Windermere from our jetty showing two of our safety craftThe 68 metre water frontage has two jetties and a boat house/wet dock which houses the safety craft and control room. A large fleet of sailing dinghies and canoes available for hire to those with suitable qualifications. Although groups staying in Waterside Wood Chalet are given first priority to hire our craft during their stay, there are still normally craft available for non-resident groups. Our Boat House & Control Room, you can see the main accommodation block further up the hill, through the trees At weekends from Easter and until the end of October and during the main season, the centre and it's safety boats are under the control of a voluntary warden who is resident in the centre.

Day visitors are encouraged by prior arrangement, facilities available include changing rooms, toilets and hot showers. Parking is limited.

Parking

Due to limited vehicle parking at the centre, residents at Waterside Wood are allocated sufficient spaces for their group and the remainder are allotted to visiting groups and centre staff. Parking discs are only available from Great Tower reception to where all users should report on arrival.

Waterside Wood Chalet

The galley kitchen, although compact, caters very well for parties of 26 and moreThis new purpose built building offers first class accommodation for 26. The 2-storey building incorporates a high standard of insulation with double glazing and complies with fire safety requirements. The upstairs lounge area, suitable for relaxing or as a training room The upper floor houses the dormitories one of ten bunks and four of four bunks and a lounge area large enough for all your party.  The lower floor consists of a galley / dining room plus the main toilet and shower block. One of the 4-bed Dormitories, you can see Lake Windermere through the window The central heating / domestic hot water system provides ample hot water. Other rooms on the lower floor are for stowage of the centre's own gear.

The ten-bed Dormitory with a view over Lake WindermereThe upper floor has been fitted out for comfort and needs to be kept dry. The ground floor being designed for the wet side of the operation. The galley / dining room is equipped with fridge and large cooker, all utensils, crockery and cutlery are provided. A coin-operated drying machine and payphone are part of the complex.
